Britain paid Libyan officials 'bribes' to allow rescue flights to land at Tripoli airport | Mail Online: "Britain has paid what one senior government figure called ‘bribes’ to Libyan officials in order to get British citizens home.

Officials were forced to hand over more than £11,000 of taxpayers’ money to Colonel Gaddafi’s government for every one of the rescue flights that have landed at Tripoli airport.

The cost to the public purse is already in excess of £70,000 and could rise to six figures as ministers race to pull out the remaining Britons before a full blown civil war erupts."
